More than 1500 experts, ministers and dignitaries from different countries gather in Bali to participate in the World Geothermal Congress and Exhibition 2010 from 25-30 April 2010, the stage is set for exchange of ideas and sharing of experiences not only on technical and financing aspects but also on policy and global politics of the energy sector. Highlights of the event include high powered panel discussions, Chief Executive Officer summit, Exhibition and a Bali Declaration by the Congress participants.

Annual Geothermal Finance & Investment Summit in Las Vegas

Geothermal energy is poised to meet the rapidly growing demand for renewable, zero-carbon power. There is enormous potential for growth in this sleeping giant and experts see it as the next big renewable play.
The third annual Geothermal Finance & Investment Summit will bring together today’s leading project developers, investors, lenders, contractors and other players to share their perspectives on the market for geothermal finance and investment and to make deals happen. Geothermal Anywhere receives grant awards €2.64 million

In August 2009, Geothermal Anywhere submitted proposals under the Agency of the Ministry of Education of the Slovak Republic for the Structural Funds of the European Union (ASFEU). The cost sharing grants are for the development of new ultra deep drilling technology that aims to open access to the energy in deep geothermal, oil or gas reservoirs.
In January 2010, Geothermal Anywhere has now been granted €2.64 million (US $3.7 million) for the projects solving drilling and rock disintegration, technology power sources and control system. Project partners involve leading Slovak universities, Academy of Sciences and focused technological companies. Projects were selected for negotiation and finalization of grant awards.
“We are very pleased to be selected by the Agency of the Ministry of Education (ASFEU) to receive funding for new ultra deep drilling technologies”, said Geothermal Anywhere CEO Igor Kocis. “Unique in Central Europe, awarded grants are completing the mosaic of different technologies necessary for the whole system operation", he added.
Final developed technologies enable geothermal revolution by bringing innovative cost effective underground robotic platform for drilling and for transport of energy and material. Geothermal power engineering will obtain the fundamental technology necessary for expanding the cost competitive base-load generation option able to fully replace the fossil or nuclear power plants. In parallel, access to deep oil and gas reservoirs will become cost effective and thus discovered new deep underground reservoirs below 5 km could be economically extracted.

GeoPower Europe in Munich

More than 120 company representatives from 20 countries including our Geothermal Anywhere attended the Geopower Europe 2009 Conference.
Although the current financial crisis is affecting geothermal segment, the geothermal industry is confident to reach 2020 targets of the EGEC Brussels declaration with 6 GW electricity and 39 GW heating installed. EGEC has presented the national geothermal targets for both electricity and heating, emphasizing the weight of geothermal in the EU Renewables 20% target by 2020.
At the moment, one of the main barriers identified by the geothermal community addresses the coverage of the drilling risk. The sector urges Member States and European Authorities to create an European Risk Insurance Scheme; the design of this innovative financial tool is ready to be implemented. The geothermal industry is sure to provide a large contribution to our future renewable energy mix and to ensure reaching the urgently needed CO2 emission reduction.
Geothermal Anywhere representatives were participating at the event with main focus on new EGS and drilling technologies development. We can again observe that the price of drilling and drilling risk of current technologies is the largest obstacle of geothermal energy expansion. Effective deep drilling is for EGS the fundamental precondition for decrease of the whole geothermal project cost and lowers the risk of investors.
